What this tool estimates
This septic maintenance planning estimator combines your reported information, official references and labeled RHC planning rules to support maintenance planning and next-step decisions. It does not determine system safety, diagnose septic failure, replace an onsite inspection, set a legal pumping deadline or prove compliance with state or local permits.
When not to rely on the estimator first
Do not wait for a calculation if sewage is backing up indoors, wastewater is visible or suspected outdoors, drainfield symptoms are serious, slow drains persist, a mechanical failure is known, or flooding/saturation is affecting the system. EPA supports avoiding sewage contact and seeking professional/local guidance; RHC advises prioritizing assessment over this planning tool. Wet ground or slow drains alone do not diagnose failure. Choose the relevant path: indoor sewage backup, wet or green drainfield, persistent slow drains, or known heavy-rain/saturation context. For known mechanical failure, contact a septic professional. This form has no flood input and does not infer flooding.
What remains unknown
The result lists reported and missing information separately. Unconfirmed household/bedroom counts do not trigger occupancy adjustments. Unknown system type prevents type-specific inspection judgment; missing pumping or inspection history calls for records, not an overdue finding. Unknown tank size receives no tank-size adjustment and does not mean adequate sizing. Local permits, service contracts and maintenance requirements still need professional/local confirmation, even if every form field is filled.
